Prerequisites
Before we start, here’s what you need to have set up:
- Rooted Android Device: Ensure your device is rooted. If it’s not, you’ll need to do that first.
- TWRP Recovery Installed: You’ll need this to install some of the tools we’ll use.
- Magisk Manager Installed: This app helps you manage important modules we’ll be using.
- Device Compatibility: These steps should work on most rooted Android phones, but a few details might be slightly different based on the model or custom software you’re using.
Use a Custom Kernel
Installing a custom kernel can make a big difference in how well your device handles games. Think of it like giving your phone a little extra strength so it can run games more smoothly. A custom kernel allows you to control how your CPU and GPU perform, helping you avoid overheating or lagging during those important moments.
Download a Custom Kernel
First, you’ll need to get a kernel that works for your specific device. Head to XDA Forums and search for a custom kernel that’s right for your phone. A couple of popular ones are:
Flash the Custom Kernel
Now that you’ve downloaded your kernel, here’s what to do next:
- Boot into TWRP Recovery: Hold the Volume Down + Power Button as your phone restarts to get into TWRP Recovery.
- In TWRP, tap on Install and choose the custom kernel zip file you just downloaded.
- Swipe to confirm the installation, then reboot your phone.
This process will make your phone run more efficiently, especially during gaming.
Manage CPU and GPU Performance
Your CPU and GPU are the muscle of your device, and you can actually adjust how hard they work during games. By taking control of them, you can make sure your phone is working as hard as it needs to for your games to run smoothly.
Install a CPU Manager App
You’ll need an app to manage your CPU and GPU settings. Two solid options are Kernel Adiutor and EX Kernel Manager.
Adjust CPU and GPU Frequencies
Once you’ve installed the app, go to the CPU settings and adjust the following:
- Set the Governor to “Performance” mode. This tells the CPU to always work at its best speed.
- Raise the Maximum Frequency to the highest setting allowed by your device.
If the app allows you to tweak the GPU as well, make sure to set it to use its maximum frequency for gaming.
Disable Unnecessary Background Services
Background apps can quietly take up valuable memory and CPU power while you’re playing, which can slow down your games. Let’s stop that from happening.
Install Greenify
Greenify is a great app that lets you “hibernate” apps that you’re not using so they don’t take up resources while you game.
Hibernate Background Apps
After you’ve installed Greenify, open the app and choose the apps you want to hibernate. This prevents them from running in the background and frees up memory and CPU power for your games.
Use Game Boosting Apps
Game boosting apps can make your phone prioritize gaming, making sure your games get all the resources they need to run better.
Download L Speed or Gaming Mode App
There are a couple of apps designed for this:
Enable Game Boost Profiles
Once installed, open the app and choose a performance profile for gaming. These profiles will adjust settings like CPU speed and memory usage, making sure your games have everything they need to run well.
Adjust RAM Management
Managing your device’s memory is key to making sure your games don’t lag. Properly handling RAM can prevent your device from freezing during gameplay.
Download RAM Manager Pro
This app helps you make sure your RAM is being used efficiently, so your games don’t get interrupted.
Tweak RAM Settings
After installing RAM Manager Pro, set it to “Gaming” or “Balance” mode. These settings make sure that your device prioritizes memory for games, helping them run smoother without interruptions from other apps.
And there you have it! With these easy steps, your rooted Android device will be a lot better at handling gaming. From using a custom kernel to adjusting your CPU and GPU settings, all of these tips will help ensure that your games run smoother and faster.
