How to Root Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime with Magisk or SuperSU

Prerequisites

Here’s what you need before starting:

A PC with a USB port, a microSD card for file storage, and a fully charged phone are also required to avoid interruptions.

Root Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime Using TWRP and Magisk

This method will give you root access without affecting your system files, making it easier to keep your phone up to date.

Boot into Download Mode

First, you need to boot your phone into Download Mode. This will allow you to flash files onto your phone using ODIN.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Press and hold the Power, Volume Down, and Home buttons until the screen lights up.
  • Press Volume Up to confirm entering Download Mode.

Flash TWRP Recovery Using ODIN

Next, we’ll install TWRP, a custom recovery tool, that will help us flash the necessary files.

  • Open ODIN on your computer.
  • Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.
  • In ODIN, click on AP and select the TWRP file you downloaded.
  • Uncheck “Auto Reboot” in the settings to prevent the phone from restarting automatically.
  • Click Start and wait for the process to finish. You’ll see a “PASS!” message when it’s done.

Boot into TWRP Recovery

Now, let’s boot directly into TWRP recovery mode.

  • Remove the battery, wait a few seconds, and put it back in.
  • Press and hold the Power, Volume Up, and Home buttons to boot into TWRP Recovery.

Flash Magisk ZIP

Now that you’re in TWRP, you can install Magisk to root your device.

  • In TWRP, select Install.
  • Choose the Magisk ZIP file from your SD card.
  • Swipe to confirm the installation.
  • Once installed, wipe the Dalvik/Cache to ensure a smooth boot.

Reboot and Check for Root

After installing Magisk, reboot your phone.

  • In TWRP, go to Reboot and choose System.
  • After the reboot, open the Magisk app from your app drawer to confirm that your phone is now rooted.

If you prefer using SuperSU, this method will guide you through rooting with a system-modifying approach.

Boot into Download Mode

To start, you’ll need to enter Download Mode again.

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Hold the Power, Volume Down, and Home buttons until the screen turns on.
  • Press Volume Up to enter Download Mode.

Flash Custom Recovery Using ODIN

Next, let’s flash the custom recovery using ODIN.

  • Open ODIN on your computer.

  • In ODIN, click on AP and choose the custom recovery file.
  • Uncheck Auto Reboot.
  • Click Start and wait for the process to complete.

Boot into Recovery Mode

  • Remove the battery, wait a few seconds, and insert it back in.
  • Press the Power, Volume Up, and Home buttons to enter recovery mode.

Flash SuperSU ZIP

Once in recovery mode, follow these steps to root your device with SuperSU.

  • In recovery, select Install.
  • Choose the SuperSU ZIP file from your SD card.
  • Swipe to confirm installation.
  • Wipe the Dalvik/Cache to avoid any issues during reboot.

Reboot and Check Root

After flashing SuperSU, reboot your phone.

  • In the recovery menu, select Reboot and choose System.
  • Once rebooted, open the SuperSU app to confirm that root access has been successfully gained.
